More information

Genuine Japanese horticultural pumice, imported directly from Japan. The same lightweight volcanic stone used in traditional bonsai nurseries for decades, prized for its structure, drainage and durability.

Pumice holds moisture within its porous particles while draining freely, feeding oxygen to the roots and protecting against root rot. Unlike softer media it does not break down or compact, so your mix keeps its structure between repottings.

Best suited for

  • Bonsai soil mixes, blended with Akadama and Kiryuzuna
  • Succulents, cacti and caudex plants
  • Orchids and epiphytes needing sharp drainage
  • Cutting propagation and root-recovery mixes

How to use

Use pure for recovery potting and cuttings, or blend 30 to 50% into your bonsai or succulent mix for added drainage and aeration. A classic bonsai blend is equal parts Akadama, pumice and scoria.

Repacked fresh from 16L import bags. Shipping included.

How much do I need?

As a rough guide, a standard bonsai pot takes 1 to 3 litres of mix. Blend pumice at 30 to 50% with Akadama, or use it pure for recovery potting and cuttings.
